FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — A groundbreaking ceremony will be held Friday, July 14, at the Lake Fayetteville Softball Complex to mark the beginning of improvements to the City facility.
The event will take place at 9 a.m. Speakers will be Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan and Byron Humphry, parks operations director for the Public Works Department.
Renovations to the ballfield complex – including the fields, restroom facility and playground area – will replace aged and worn out infrastructure. This project consists of an overhaul to the stormwater drainage system, as well as installing artificial turf on the infields to increase the playability of the complex with regards to weather.
Other improvements include new fencing, backstops, dugouts, bleachers, security lighting and improved accessibility. The project is anticipated to be completed in March 2024 in time for the spring softball league.
The ballfield complex has served the Fayetteville community for nearly 50 years. Renovations are partially funded by the Park Improvement Bond approved by Fayetteville residents in 2019.
While the complex is being renovated, restroom facilities for trail users still will be available at Veterans Memorial Park, the Lake Fayetteville Marina and North Shore.
