FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Over the next two months, the City of Fayetteville will make improvements to Dickson Street between N. College Avenue and N. School Avenue.
During June and July, Transportation Division crews will repair and/or replace sidewalks, curbs, brick pavers and other streetscape features, along with an asphalt pavement overlay and new striping. Also, a striped bike lane will be added between College and East Avenue.
Work will begin Tuesday, June 13, at Dickson and School then proceed east. Milling and overlay operations will proceed on a block-by-block basis until the work is complete.
These improvements to Dickson were scheduled during June and July because the drier summertime weather will allow construction to be completed faster, as this timeframe typically sees fewer rain and resulting delays.
The work plan for this project has been adjusted to mill shorter sections before repaving in order to avoid rough pavement or uneven surfaces during the NWA Pride Parade.
The first section, between School and Thompson Avenue, is expected to be completed by Friday, June 23. The remaining sections east of Thompson will be completed by Friday, July 21, weather permitting. Pavement overlay generally will be completed within two to three days of milling on each block.
Road closures for milling operations will be kept to a minimum with the use of flaggers. Paving will require closures of short sections during working hours around the work areas; these closures are expected to be limited to a few days on each block.
Pavement striping will be done after all paving is completed. Final completion for improvements to Dickson is expected by the end of July.
Sidewalk and streetscape work will occur during the milling and paving operations. Sporadic, short-term closures of small sections of sidewalk and parking areas will be necessary in work areas.
