WASHINGTON - On May 11, 2023, Congressman Bruce Westerman voted YES to pass H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act of 2023. He released the following statement:

“I’ve seen firsthand the unprecedented national security, ecological, and humanitarian crisis at the southern border. Unimaginable things are happening in our country because of the Biden Administration’s failure to put its foot down and enforce our border laws. The increased drug trafficking, illegal immigration, and human trafficking at the border are affecting every community – not just the cities and states along the border – and it’s spreading like a wildfire across our country.“With the expiration of Title 42, the crisis at the border will only go from bad to worse, and the Biden Administration has no plan to control the coming chaos. Fortunately, House Republicans were prepared. We promised the American people we’d secure the southern border and protect our communities. On May 11, 2023, we passed legislation to stand up to the drug cartels and remove the incentives for people to cross our southern border illegally. H.R. 2 will bolster the capabilities of our border patrol agents to combat human and drug trafficking, rein in illegal immigration, and ensure our national security,” Congressman Westerman said.

The Secure the Border Act of 2023 would:

  • Resume border wall construction
  • Bolster CBP staffing
  • Modernizes and enhances technology
  • Demands transparency from DHS
  • Addresses CBP retention
  • Supports local law enforcement
