Born August 2, 1932 in El Dorado; known for founding AFL

Lamar Hunt was born on August 2, 1932, in El Dorado, Arkansas. He later became a key figure in American sports. He founded the American Football League in 1960. He also helped start the Kansas City Chiefs. Hunt played a major role in the AFL-NFL merger. He is credited with naming the Super Bowl. Hunt also had a role in soccer, tennis, and basketball. He helped form the North American Soccer League and Major League Soccer. He owned multiple sports franchises. His influence shaped modern professional football. In 1972, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Hunt maintained ties to his birthplace throughout his life. His work in sports continued until his death in 2006. His impact on American sports remains strong. El Dorado, Arkansas, is the city where his story began.
