Today, House Committee on Natural Resources Chairman Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) announced the subcommittee chairs for the 119th Congress. The appointments cover various areas including energy, federal lands, and Indian affairs.
Rob Wittman (R-Va.) will serve as Vice Chairman of the Full Committee. Wittman expressed his commitment to advocating for environmental stewardship: "As a lifelong outdoorsman, conservationist, and former marine scientist, I am deeply honored to serve as vice chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee and use my leadership role to advocate for a cleaner, safer, and healthier Chesapeake Bay."
Pete Stauber (R-Minn.) was named Chairman of the Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources. He emphasized reversing previous administration policies: "With President Trump at our nation’s helm and a unified Congress ready to work, I know we can finally undo the damage committed by the Biden Administration and unleash our nation’s vast energy and mineral resources."
Tom Tiffany (R-Wis.) returns as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Federal Lands. Tiffany highlighted opportunities for policy advancements: "We have a fantastic opportunity to build off the great work we accomplished the past two years... there is a real opportunity for us to get our initiatives over the finish line."
Jeff Hurd (R-Colo.) will lead the Subcommittee on Indian and Insular Affairs. Hurd noted his focus on representing Western interests: "This chairmanship will give the people of the Third District, Colorado and the west a voice on issues that are pivotal to our country."
Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) takes charge of Oversight and Investigations once more. Gosar stated his objectives: "I look forward to working with every member of this committee to protect our natural heritage... while ensuring transparency and accountability within the federal government."
Harriet Hageman (R-Wyo.) assumes leadership of Water, Wildlife and Fisheries. Hageman reflected on her legal career in resource management: "I spent my legal career protecting Wyoming’s industries from federal overreach... I look forward to working with my colleagues to empower local expertise."
