El Dorado Mayor Paul Choate, Public Works Director Robert Edmonds, and El Dorado–Union County Chamber CEO Bill Luther attended the Arkansas Department of Transportation’s February Commission meeting. They met David Haak, newly appointed Highway Commissioner representing the Fourth Congressional District.
A celebration took place, recognizing the 70th anniversary of Amendment 42 to the Arkansas constitution, the Mack-Blackwell Amendment. The amendment stated that a five-member commission was to be appointed by the governor for staggered ten-year terms with no two from the same congressional district. This was to ensure that the entire state was represented on the commission. The amendment also stated that the commission would select the director of the Highway Department.
