INTERNATIONAL PAPER: Summer of Safety

Are you planning to take a road trip before the summer ends? Whether you're visiting your parents, helping a friend move across the country, or visiting a local swimming spot for the afternoon, planning ahead is a great way to keep safety at the front of your mind during the #SummerofSafety . The National Highway Safety Administration has estimated that highway fatalities in Q1 2022 have increased by 7% from the same quarterly period last year to 9,560, the highest number of fatalities since 2002 according to the National Safety Council. This is a devastating statistic, especially considering the number of workers who must commute to work every day. Before you leave for your journey, do your research and prep in advance:

1. Ensure your tires are properly inflated and you know potential hazards along the route.

2. Keep an eye out for indications of heavy traffic or animal crossings—highways often provide alerts via overhead signs.

3. Try to arrive at your destination during the day, and avoid rush hour (4-6pm typically)

4. Keep your device charged and write down local emergency numbers in case of emergencies
