Mena - Polk County Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on June 1.
Mena Mayor Seth Smith declared Saturday, May 28, 2022, the Talimena Rally Cruisin' for St. Jude day. For twenty years, the Talimena Rally has been visiting the Polk County area every Memorial Day weekend. For the past ten years, the group of motorcyclists from across the nation has raised money for St. Jude's Children's Hospital. In the last decade, the Rally has raised almost $400,000 dollars!
This year, the group of around 250 motorcycles, totaling nearly 400 people left their rally in Texarkana at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning and headed north. Their first stop in Polk County was in Wickes to fill up on gas. Their second stop of the day was at Papa's Mexican Cafe, where Oscar and crew had prepared a meal for 400 people.
While at Papa's eating lunch, Mayor Smith met with Neil Jones (event organizer) and his wife, Carol. Mayor Smith also signed the proclamation declaring the day officially for the rally.
To finish their day trip to Polk County, the group rode to Queen Wilhelmina State Park where the Mena/Polk County Chamber of Commerce, along with employees of QWSP, met the group with cold water to hydrate with while they enjoyed the views.
With their combined stops in the county, the group boosted the county economy by at least $10,000! We thank the Talimena Rally organizers for keeping our area on the agenda!
