Henderson State University issued the following announcement Nov. 15.
Henderson State University Theatre will present five performances of Men on Boats by Jaclyn Backhaus Nov. 18, 19, 20, and 22 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 20 at 2 p.m. All performances will be in the Arkansas Hall Studio Theatre.
A reception will follow the opening performance. Men On Boats is recommended for mature audiences due to language and content.
Men on Boats is the true(ish) story of an 1869 expedition, when a one-armed captain and a crew of insane, yet loyal, volunteers set out to chart the course of the Colorado River. The characters in the play were historically white males, however the actors are anything but that.
The cast of Men on Boats includes: Natalie Gray of Hot Springs; Zandora Chinwah of Hot Springs; Savannah Price of Alexander; Nakayla Hatley of Gurdon; Sarah Miller of Malvern; Chelsie Spain of Natchitoches, Louisiana; Sophie Burke of DeQueen; Jessica Smith of Cabot; and Suzy Hill of Little Rock.
The play is under the direction of Lacy Klinger. Scenic and lighting design is by Douglas Gilpin, with costume and makeup design by William Henshaw. Student designers include Trey Smith, sound. The stage manager is Emily Williams.
Tickets are on sale now at hsu.edu/onlineticketing. The HSU Theatre Box Office in Arkansas Hall will be open for in-person ticket sales from 1-4 p.m. All seats are reserved. Admission is $10, or free with an HSU student ID.
