Cost of college went up for all students at Southern Arkansas University Tech

In-state tuition and fees rose 3.5 percent for 2018-19 at Southern Arkansas University Tech, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Arkansas residents paid $4,977 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $167 more than the $4,810 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 28.9 percent more than residents this year, or $6,417. Their price tag grew 2.7 percent from $6,250 in 2017-18.

About 92 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Arkansas residents. About 6 percent are residents of other states and 1 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 85 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 123 students received grants or scholarships totaling $811,760 and 102 students took out student loans totaling more than $437,027.

Including all undergraduates (1,082), 708 students used grants or scholarships totaling $3.9 million, and 114 students took out $432,127 in federal student loans.
