About 53.2 percent of the 758 degrees and certificates handed out by Southern Arkansas University Tech in 2017-18 were to students in homeland security, law enforcement, firefighting and related protective services programs, making them the most popular programs that year, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The agency’s National Center for Education Statistics shows the public institution in Camden conferred 397 certificates and 6 associate’s degrees in homeland security, law enforcement, firefighting and related protective services programs.

But the single most popular program was for a certificate in criminal justice/police science. Data shows the school gave out 307 certificates in criminal justice/police science, followed by 90 certificates in fire science/fire-fighting and 50 certificates in welding technology/welder.

The university enrolled 1,082 students for 2017-18, all of whom were enrolled in undergraduate programs.
