FOIA Request to Henderson State University Regarding Chinese National Students on June 3, 2025.
We, at the SW Arkansas Times, have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Henderson State University seeking detailed records concerning Chinese National students enrolled at the institution. Our request aims to shed light on various aspects related to these students and their engagement with the university.
The request specifically asks for documents or lists that provide information about all current students who are Chinese Nationals, including their department of study. If this information is protected, we have requested a total count of such students and a breakdown by department. Additionally, we seek details on scholarships awarded to these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship.
Furthermore, our inquiry extends to any scholarships associated with the Chinese Scholarship Council and requests clarity on whether these are included in the previous scholarship data. We also ask for policies or procedures that outline how the university monitors its students—particularly Chinese Nationals—to safeguard intellectual property and other confidential information.
This request is made in collaboration with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting transparency in governmental affairs. As members of the media committed to providing comprehensive news coverage and holding public institutions accountable, we believe access to this information is crucial for public transparency and understanding.
We anticipate that our role as media professionals will qualify us for a fee waiver under FOIA regulations. This endeavor aligns with our mission to inform the public by leveraging Freedom of Information laws effectively.
