Cost of education at Henderson State University stays the same for all students in 2022-23 school year

According to the latest figures, Henderson State University did not increase in-state tuition fees for the 2022-23 academic year, according to the latest disclosure from the National Center for Education Statistics.

Arkansas residents paid $7,560 to attend the public four-year university in both the 2021-22 and 2022-23 school years.

Non-resident students faced a tuition rate 29.2% higher than that of residents, amounting to $9,768 in the 2022-23 academic year. This rate remained unchanged from the previous year.

Approximately 81% of the university’s undergraduate students are Arkansas residents, while 19% come from other states and 1% are international students.

Data indicates that 99% of full-time undergraduates who enrolled at Henderson State University in 2022-23 received some form of financial aid. Specifically, 401 students were awarded grants or scholarships totaling $3.6 million, and 351 students secured loans exceeding $1.5 million.

Across all undergraduates, 1,601 students benefited from grants or scholarships amounting to $16 million, while 807 students obtained federal student loans totaling $6.1 million.

Undergraduate education costs have seen a significant increase over the past few decades. Data shows a 169% rise in the average total cost, including tuition, fees, room, and board, between 1980 and 2020.

According to a 2023 College Board report, in-state students at public universities paid an average of $11,260, while out-of-state students paid $29,150 in the 2023-24 academic year.

Meanwhile, student loan debt has steadily increased over the last 30 years, reaching $1.75 trillion in 2024, averaging a total of $28,950 per borrower. Federal loans make up 92% of the debt, with over half of students at both public and private four-year colleges graduating with student loans.
