This week, a bipartisan congressional delegation led by House Committee on Natural Resources Chairman Bruce Westerman visited South Korea. The visit aimed to strengthen the partnership between the United States and South Korea, focusing on energy and fisheries issues.
Chairman Westerman expressed gratitude for the hospitality received during their visit. “The strong partnership between the United States and South Korea was clear in our visit with Acting President Lee, members of the cabinet and business leaders. I’d like to thank Acting President Lee for his hospitality during our visit,” he stated. He also acknowledged the efforts of U.S. troops stationed in South Korea, saying, “In addition, our delegation gratefully had the opportunity to engage with U.S. troops stationed in the country and express our appreciation for the work they do every day to defend our nation and our allies.”
During their stay, the delegation met with key figures including Acting President Ju-ho Lee, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Duk-geun Ahn, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Do-hyung Kang, and CEO of the Federation of Korean Industries Chang-beom Kim. Discussions covered topics such as energy, trade, fisheries-related issues, and regional security threats posed by North Korea and China.
The delegation included U.S. Representatives Sarah Elfreth (D-Md.), Harriet Hageman (R-Wyo.), Celeste Maloy (R-Utah), and Nick Begich (R-Alaska).
