U.S. Department of the Interior Secretary Doug Burgum appeared before the House Committee on Natural Resources to discuss President Trump’s Fiscal Year 2026 budget request for the department. The session highlighted the administration’s goals for domestic energy and resource management.
Committee Chairman Bruce Westerman expressed support, stating, “Under the leadership of President Trump and Secretary Burgum, America will unleash its untapped resource potential and ensure a strong, safe and prosperous future for this and future generations. Our nation is stronger because of the work done by DOI to unleash American energy, strengthen domestic mineral supply chains and promote access to our natural resources.”
The House Committee on Natural Resources Republicans are collaborating with the Trump administration to enhance American energy production and increase resource accessibility. Their efforts also focus on reducing government inefficiencies by eliminating waste, fraud, abuse, and bureaucratic obstacles that hinder innovation.
The committee has been actively involved in legislative processes supporting President Trump’s vision. They have conducted numerous oversight hearings and passed legislation enacting several Executive Orders (EO), such as EO 14153 regarding Alaska’s resources, EO 14172 restoring historical names, EO 14225 expanding timber production, EO 14229 honoring Jocelyn Nungaray, EO 14274 managing federal office space sensibly, and EO 14276 promoting American seafood competitiveness.
Today’s hearing centered on the proposed budget for DOI under Secretary Burgum’s guidance. The department is committed to managing America’s energy and mineral resources through balanced programs while implementing forest management policies aimed at reducing wildfire risks and enhancing community safety.
